Specialist Fourth Class Matayoshi was at a listening post when his position came under attack. A grenade was thrown and he was wounded in the right arm and leg by the explosion. His radio was also destroyed. He administered aid to his own wounds and assured his comrades that he was not seriously wounded. Although in agonizing pain, he did not make noise to reveal his position. When the post was relieved the next morning it was discovered that Specialist Fourth Class Matayoshi's condition was beyond medical help. -This narrative was researched and written by Hall of Honor staff.
