Zachary Byron's Bronze Star Citation reads in part, "In an attempt to aid a fallen Marine, Lance Corporal Byron was shot twice, once through the wrist and again through the thigh by enemy small arms fire. While under continuous fire, Lance Corporal Byron was then taken to a nearby compound where two tourniquets were applied to his let thigh. Although Lance Corporal Byron was falling in and out of consciousness, he continued to provide intelligence by translating enemy communication, which allowed the squad to avert an imminent enemy assault on their position..."
