Private Galluppi was aboard LST 531 which was participating in Operation Tiger. The exercise was a rehearsal for D-Day and the transportation of the troops onto the shores of Normandy. A German E-Boat fired several torpedoes and sunk the LST carrying the 3206th Quartermaster Service Company. Of the 251 Officers and Enlisted men of the Company, 201 were killed, wounded, or missing.
